To Oranda, is the Japanese pronunciation of the phrase “and the Netherlands.” The video is a reflection on my migration to 

Belgium, my Japanese heritage, and my Dutch upbringing. Even though I was born and raised in the Netherlands, in the EU. I am not considered an EU citizen or a Dutch citizen. Positioned between cultural frameworks without a singular point of origin, I examine the structures of communication and relationality that emerge within and across these three national contexts. Through a layering of bureaucratic, personal, and historical impressions, the work interrogates how identity is negotiated in transit. Repeated attempts to anchor new wishes and futures with new people in new places have continually led me to, and away from, Oranda.
